Sep 11 at 7-8pm: Class 1/7: Your Anatomy and Hormones
We will begin the series for moms/mother-figures and teens with introductions to anatomy and hormones.
Our fertility specialist will give an overview of the female reproductive anatomy (inside and out), why hormones are important, what happens with a growing egg each month, the importance of ovulation, and the basic parts of a woman’s cycle.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
Sep 18 at 7-8pm: Class 2/7: Charting your Cycle
We will discuss in more detail about what a healthy cycle looks like, building on what we learned the first week or what you may already know. We will discuss the signs your body gives you throughout your cycle, practical tips for noticing these signs, how to track/chart the changes in your cycle, and what these changes mean about your hormones.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
Sep 25 at 7-8pm: Class 3/7: Puberty and a Healthy Cycle
Now that we know what a cycle should look like for a healthy, adult woman, we will learn about how it can differ depending on one’s stage of life. For each part of the cycle, you will learn how to identify it and know if it is healthy. This includes learning to identify ovulation and to assess if you likely have healthy amounts of the hormone’s estrogen and progesterone. Like all the classes in this series, women of all ages can learn something about their health, even if they do not have a pre-teen/teen daughter.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
October 2 at 7-8pm: Class 4/7: The Beginning of Life
To gain a greater respect for others, this class will introduce male anatomy and male development. We will review the role of a woman’s reproductive organs in pregnancy, what happens when sperm and egg meet, and how hormones affect emotions. Based on philosophers’ ideas, we will discuss virtue and making healthy choices for your emotions and your body.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
Oct 9 at 7-8pm: Class 5/7: Brain, Emotions, and Lifestyle
Based on what we have learned so far, we will begin to talk about how choices influence all aspects of our lives. You’ll learn about the role of hormones in bonding in all types of relationships, the effects of hormonal birth control on a girl’s or woman’s body and mind, and the symptoms of urinary and sexual infections. Speaking as a Client Advocate at Pregnancy Aid Clinic, the teacher will also cover pregnancy and STIs, including the medical and mentoring services we offer and how you can help a friend facing an unplanned pregnancy.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
Oct 16 at 7-8pm: Class 6/7: Healthy Habits
This class will review the way your hormonal and overall health are affected by sleep, stress, nutrition, and substances like drugs and alcohol. We will go over different options for menstrual products and talk about how to care for our bodies and minds during each part of the cycle.
Appropriate for ages 13+ with their mom/mother-figure or for 18+ if attending alone
Oct 23 at 7-8pm: Class 7/7: Family Planning (Moms/mother-figures only)
This class for moms/mother figures will connect the dots of the preceding fertility education with how parents can use FEMM for family planning. You’ll learn how FEMM/charting tells women and couples when they are fertile and review information you may want to use in your life to achieve or avoid pregnancy. There will be an open discussion regarding when/how/why to bring this information to your growing girl.
Appropriate for moms/mother-figures 18+ to attend without their teen
